4th February – World Cancer Day

'We Can. I Can'. This day explores how we can all do our part to reduce the global burden of cancer, to raise awareness of cancer and encourage its prevention. There are lots of ways to get involved.

7th February – Super Bowl

This game of American football will be played at the Levi's Stadium, Santa Clara in California, the home stadium of the San Francisco 49ers. It is the 50th anniversary and is called the 'Golden Super Bowl'.

8th February – Chinese New Year

In the Chinese lunar calendar, each year is signified by an animal from the Chinese zodiac cycle and this is the Year of the Red Fire Monkey. It is celebrated with firecrackers, ringing bells and traditional dragon parades, and on New Year's Day families gather together to eat, clean their houses and sweep away bad luck.

Pancake Day (also known as Shrove Tuesday) is the last day before the period which Christians call Lent. It is traditional on this day to eat pancakes.

14th February – Valentine's Day

Celebrated around the world, on this day it is traditional to send a card (often anonymously), flowers or a gift to your lover or would-be lover. In ancient Rome this time of year was celebrated as a pagan festival and centuries later in 1913 Hallmark produced their first commercial Valentine's card.
