Salt Dough Recipe

  • 125g plain flour
  • 145g salt
  • 120ml water
  • Splash of oil
  1. Sieve the flour in to a bowl, then add the salt and a splash of oil to prevent cracking when baking.
  2. Slowly add the water and mix, until it forms a dough. Tip: It shouldn’t be so sticky that it stays attached to your hands when mixing, if it is add some more flour.
  3. Follow the steps below to create the Easter Egg Decorations.

Steps for Decorations:

  1. Pre heat your oven to 140oC, then make your salt dough. (Follow recipe above.)
  2. Roll out to 0.5cm thick.
  3. Using your cutter, cut out as many eggs as possible. Remove excess dough and roll back in to a ball, place to one side.
  4. Cover a baking tray with baking paper, then using a spatula, lift the eggs and place on a baking tray.
  5. Keep following steps 2-4 until all the dough is used.
  6. Once all the eggs are on the tray, using the straw, pierce a hole in the top of each egg, ready for the ribbon to hang them with.
  7. Place into pre heated oven and bake for about 2 hours.
  8. Once baked (they should be dry and hard) and cooled, you can begin to paint the decorations. Be creative with your designs, we would suggest painting them all solid Easter colours to start with, then once this layer is dry add decorative patterns or glitter.
  9. Once you have completed your final design and it is completely dry, add a clear coat of varnish.
  10. Once your decoration is finished, cut a complimentary ribbon or string to the required length and hang.
